The measure will be scored on three aspects, based on responses to the Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (HOS):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Discussing Urinary Incontinence:<\/strong> The percentage of members who reported having urine leakage in the past 6 months and who discussed their urinary leakage problem with a health care provider.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment of Urinary Incontinence:<\/strong> The percentage of members who reported having urine leakage in the past 6 months and who discussed treatment options for their urinary incontinence with a health care provider.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Impact of Urinary Incontinence:<\/strong>\u00a0The percentage of members who reported having urine leakage in the past 6 months and who reported that urine leakage made them change their daily activities or interfered with their sleep a lot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why It Matters<\/h2>\n<p>In the U.S., 51% of women and 14% of men experience UI, which often impairs physical, psychological and social well-being. Adults who experience UI report <strong>worse physical health, mental health and quality of life<\/strong>. Particularly in older adults, it can reduce independence and the ability to socialize. Despite its negative impact on physical and mental health, <strong>UI remains significantly underreported and underdiagnosed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Providers and health plans can help address UI by <strong>discussing potential problems with members and recommending evidence-based treatment<\/strong> to reduce symptoms.<\/p>\n<h2>Historical Results \u2013 National Averages<\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This measure provides information on how well MCO providers manage urinary incontinence (UI) in Medicare members 65 and older.
